Solving global challenges at the community level requires understanding our physical environment through daily realities. Open mapping helps develop this understanding, enabling informed, locally-appropriate actions by humanitarian, development, and community organizations. HOT’s work in this area, in partnership with local actors and governments connect open map data through OpenStreetMap (OSM) and other platforms with real-world applications, focusing on supporting decision-making for water, sanitation, transportation, energy, pollution mapping, urban planning, education and addressing service gaps. Accessible maps and spatial data enhance information availability for communities and officials, ensuring effective public services.
